11 Day tour
16th – 26th September 2019

Day 1 (Wed 16 Sep)   Welcome to Malta and Valletta
Arrive in Valletta. Meet the group and tour leaders after breakfast for official welcome and briefing. Our morning sightseeing will begin at the UPPER BARAKKA GARDENS where we get a magical view of the GRAND HARBOUR and the city. We then have time to leisurely explore the wonderful hidden gems of this city. Stroll down Republic St and make our way to ST JOHN’S CO-­‐‑CATHEDRAL and MUSEUM. The oratory houses Caravaggio’s masterpiece The Beheading of St John the Baptist. Enjoy a HARBOUR CRUISE in the afternoon. Overnight stay in Valletta.
Day 2 (Thu 17 Sep)   Grand Valletta
After breakfast, we visit and tour the C18th TEATRU MANOEL, built by the Knights of St John. This will be followed by a visit to THE GRAND MASTERS PALACE which houses the Parliament. Lunch is at your leisure. An afternoon self-guided tour of the ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM is optional. Overnight stay in Valletta.
Day 3 (Fri 18 Sep)   Hagar Qim, Tarxien Temples and Marsaxlokk
The driving tour today takes us to some of Malta’s most enchanting places. We travel firstly to the tiny harbour of WIED IZ-ZURRIEK with an optional boat cruise to the BLUE GROTTO. From here, we visit the ancient, hilltop temples of HAGAR QIM, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The quaint fishing village of MARSAXLOKK with its beautiful, colourful fishing boats, known as luzzi, is our lunch stop. The afternoon takes us to the town of PAOLA to visit another archaeological complex, the TARXIEN TEMPLES. Overnight stay in Valletta.
Day 4 (Sat 19 Sep)   Sliema
After a ferry trip from Valletta, we spend the day exploring the resort town of Sliema. Stroll the long promenade along the waterfront to get a great view of FORT MANOEL on MANOEL ISLAND. Go shopping at The Point or visit sites such as the C18th FORT TIGNE and C17th ST JULIAN’S TOWER. Swimming in Sliema is optional. Overnight stay in Valletta.
Day 5 (Sun 20 Sep)   The Grand Harbour
This morning we visit and explore the Grand Harbour area including the THREE CITIES – the neighbourhoods of Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua. In Vittoriosa, visit the INQUISITOR’S PALACE. After lunch, we take a HARBOUR CRUISE on a Maltese gondola. Overnight stay in Valletta.
Day 6 (Mon 21 Sep)   Traditional Malta
After breakfast, we leave Valletta for Malta’s second island, the peaceful idyll that is GOZO. On the way, we stop at MOSTA to see the spectacular MOSTA DOME before continuing on to RABAT where it is said St Paul lived after he was shipwrecked. A visit to St Paul’s Catacombs is optional. A short walk takes us to beautiful MDINA, the silent city, once the capital of Malta. After lunch, we take the ferry from Cirkewwa to Mgarr and transfer to our hotel in San Lawrenz. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Day 7 (Tues 22 Sep)   Gozo Discovery
Today’s driving tour around the island takes us to Gozo’s must-­‐‑see places. First stop is the Gozitan pilgrimage site of TA PINU BASILICA, Malta’s equivalent of Fatima and Lourdes. A quick drive from here takes us to the DWEJRA COAST to view the inland sea and the aptly-­‐‑named Fungus Rock. Then, we’re off to explore the mediaeval CITADEL OF RABAT and VISITOR CENTRE as well as the GRAN CASTELLO HISTORIC HOUSE, a folklore museum. Lunch is at pretty XLENDI FISHING VILLAGE. A brief stop at XEWKIJA to see the dome of St John’s Church before returning to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
Day 8 (Wed 23 Sep)   Rest DayToday is completely at your leisure.
Day 9 (Thu 24 Sep)   Back to Valletta
After breakfast, we leave beautiful Gozo and board the ferry back to Malta and make our way back to Valletta.
Day 10 (Fri 25 Sep)   Valletta
After breakfast, we visit FORT ST ELMO. Farewell drinks at night.
Day 11 (Sat 26 Sep)   Farewell
The tour concludes after breakfast. Sahha and grazzi! Goodbye and thank you!
